They say that where many red flowers grow, it is the Earth's way of remembering bloodshed. Choquequirao was one of the last fortresses of the Incas during the time of the Spanish conquest, and the lower terraces are covered in red flowers peeking from walls and from between steep stairs. It is as if the Earth itself is honoring all the lives lost in this place.
